Abstract
In video broadcasting it can be said that the majority of the current standards have been appropriate and beneficial to the industry as a whole. Certainly in the case of the analogue video tape recorder formats, all parties concerned have benefitted from the relative stability of one inch tape recording. In the case of small formats such U-Matic and Betacam possibilities created by changes in technology have been accommodated in a compatible way
