Abstract :
Discusses how electronic mail and conferencing, and related concepts like bulletin boards, electronic publishing, electronic journals, and more peripherally, online information retrieval, videotex, hypertext, are sometimes subsumed by the term computer mediated communication (CMC). Examples of systems and services trading under any one of these names, often offer others as additional features. What they have in common is that they are permutations of being able to send one-to-one, broadcast, receive, store, search for, provide, or restrict, or enable, read and/or write access to electronic documents. Information management, electronic mail and education, organisational communication and UK Ltd. and the information society are discussed
