Abstract
The Open University has been gaining experience with computer conferencing in the new course on information technology, in which some 1300 students use a CoSy conference system to augment the OU´s usual teaching media. They are also developing the next generation conference system, to overcome some of the limitations encountered with CoSy, as part of the Thought Box Project, which is looking more generally at future computer support systems for the students
