Abstract
A novel adaptive beamforming method for direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) communication systems is presented in this paper. This method is based on finding the eigenvector corresponding to the largest eigenvalue of the covariance matrix of the despread signal. The proposed beamforming method needs only 2N+1 complex multiplications and 2N-1 complex additions for a single run, where N is the number of antennas in the array. The performance of the proposed method in estimating the angle-of-arrival (AOA) of the desired signal, producing the antenna array pattern and decreasing the probability of bit error is evaluated in different propagation environments. The proposed algorithm has low computational load with satisfactory performance
