Abstract
An AI planning system for the automatic generation of microcode is presented for application within a datapath synthesis system. The planner maps high-level code constructs onto arbitrarily complex datapath architectures. The system is implemented in Prolog´s as a backward-chaining system, whereby the planner begins with the desired result and steps back around the circuitry toward the input variables
