A GaAs ACT/IC programmable wide-band analog signal processor

A programmable wideband analog signal processor based on an acoustic charge transport integrated circuit (ACTIC) has been developed for applications that benefit from the speed enhancements afforded by signal processing directly in the analog domain. The processor performs the digital equivalent of 45 billion multiply and accumulate operations per second. This processing power is made possible by the monolithic integration of an ACT delay line with GaAs digital and RF analog circuits. The signal processor is a transversal filter with 128 taps at 5.65-ns tap spacing. The weight of each tap is programmed with a 5-bit word which provides polarity and 4 bits of magnitude resolution. The signal processor has a wide range of potential commercial and military applications, including programmable bandpass filtering, adaptive interference cancellation, channel equalization, correlation, matched filtering, waveform and frequency synthesis, and spectral analysis.<>
