Abstract :
Subjective image compression quality assessment is a visual cognitive process. This process includes three activities: perception, cognition, and action. Based on the analysis of visual cognitive process, an experiment was conducted. A rating scale for image quality assessment was designed. JPEG2000 algorithm is adopted as compression method. A series of reconstructed images can be obtained with different compression ratios. From the experiment, the visual image quality decreases with the compression ratio increases.
