Abstract :
A highly integrated wide bandwidth MMIC (monolithic microwave IC) converter chip designed for RF multiplexer applications in an electronic warfare (EW) system is described. The MMIC converter consists of a local oscillator (LO), a two-stage LO buffer amplifier, an eight-diode double-balanced mixer, two baluns, and a two-stage intermediate frequency (IF) amplifier on a single chip with no external components except a dielectric resonator. The 6 to 18 GHz down converter meets very stringent specifications (LO to IF rejection of 25 dB and single-tone intermodulation rejection of 60 dBc) required for many electronic warfare systems. This complex integration is realized in a 96*71 mil size.<>
