Abstract :
The author discusses the development of electric propulsion (EP) technology. The following topics are dealt with: current and planned EP utilization; the process of implementing EP systems on spacecraft; and EP development status. The evolving use of EP on communication satellites is reviewed with some detail concerning the preliminary design and performance of ion systems in the north-south stationkeeping role as an example
