Abstract
The study originates from a project designed to look into ways of detecting pitting corrosion on the remote side of thick aluminium plates. Corrosion pits are genuinely three-dimensional objects and can be represented as hemispherical surface indentations in a stress free plane surface. The incident field generated by an ultrasonic transducer is assumed to be a time harmonic plane wave, and the different wave components scattered by a surface disturbance provide information on the location and size of the corrosion pit
