Abstract
Summary form only given. A theoretical model for pulsed ultrasonic inspection is described. A particularly attractive element of the model is that it predicts the pulse shape at the receiving transducer, based on the knowledge of the pulse shape scattered from some suitable reference reflector. The model is a development of that described by Chapman and Coffey (see CEGB Report No.NW/SSD/82/0034/R, 1982), and uses the earlier formulation to take account of the geometries of the flaw and test piece, the modelling of the transmitted probe beam, the geometry of the probe scan, the interaction of the incident field with the flaw to produce the scattered field, and the interaction of the scattered field with the receiving probe. Thus the model can properly be termed an integrated `system´ model
