Research on Area Recognition from Map Image

Today, Geographic information system (GIS) has been utilized in a lot of fields, and data is the soul of GIS. At the same time there is plenty of information and data in the paper map. How to make use of information from paper map is worth of studying. Map recognition can play a role in this problem. Hence, this paper mainly researches on how to effectively recognize area from map image and a corresponding scheme is proposed. Moreover, the proposed method is implemented on the practical application and simulations result show that presented method is feasible.
