  • Abstract
    Effective management system in universities plays a key role in achieving their missions in daily operations of the education system and provides the foundation to foster research and the social/economic development contributed by universities. In this paper, the university activities are partitioned to six segments including talent training, scientific research, human resource management, fund management, material management, and strategic management. These segments are defined and implemented into an advanced management system. An entropy model is developed to assess order degree (OD) of the system. The model yields a value of timeliness OD at 0.1445 and veracity OD at 0.3587 in the system, respectively. The model provides a useful tool for improving the estimation of the OD in management processes. By implementing four scenarios into the model, we show that the reduction of executive departments in a proper range of management span can yield higher OD than that from reducing basic branches.
