Abstract
Discusses how for a liberalised Europe to succeed in the field of satellite communications there has to be a harmonisation of policy, technical standards and commercial procedures which accept liberalisation as good for the customer, operator and manufacturer. At present the customer wants liberalisation by which they interpret as being able to operate their own satellite system, the operator does not want liberalisation by which they interpret as losing their market and the manufacture is squeezed leaving the market open to non European competitors from areas of the world where the rules are more clearly defined
