Abstract
Demonstrates the hybrid integration of a Ti:LiNbO3 amplitude modulator and a semiconductor laser with a coupling loss of 4.2 dB. This source can produce over 1 mW peak optical power and modulate the optical carrier at frequencies up to 20 GHz, free from the wavelength chirping effects seen on directly modulated lasers. Work is currently underway to improve the coupling efficiency and stability of the laser-lens-waveguide assembly
