Vacuum fluorescent display developments

Graphic VFD products are available in sizes up to 640×400 pixels using traditional construction methods. The author describes an improved design of VFD graphics module, which has been introduced by NORITAKE. This is the GUR256×64-312. This module is the first of a generation which will provide the following enhancements: high LCD type resolution; very fast data write time; small size with weight reduction; reduced unit cost; immunity to ghosting between dots; and improved viewing angle and reduced parallax. These enhancements are due to a fundamental change to the grid structure from the chemically etched mesh to a single wire, hence the component cost and difficult manufacturing processes have been cut
