Abstract :
The tapered configuration of a thin antenna input region (only the outer conductor of a coaxial line is flared out in the input region) is studied numerically and experimentally. Attention is given to the possibility of extending the frequency range of a thin monopole by tapering the outer conductor in the input region. The current distribution is obtained by using the method of moments. The tapered configuration of the thin antenna input region is found to be a promising and practical way of improving the frequency characteristics of a monopole, especially for a vehicle loaded antenna. The theoretical calculations and experimental results are compared, and agreement is good.<>
