Abstract :
Power system simulators have been designed for a variety of different applications, each with its own modelling and algorithmic requirements. The term `simulator´ suggests a special purpose device capable of reproducing the dynamic behaviour of a power system, probably interactively and at, or close to, real-time speed. Differences arise in the degree of detail and fidelity which is required for different applications. Accordingly, general algorithmic and modelling principles are discussed briefly by the author under headings corresponding to the most common types of application
