Abstract :
The Davis/Weller VMCM has set a new standard for near surface current measurements. The EG&G Sea-Link Systems Model 630 VMCM, is essentially a microprocessor version of the Davis/Weller VMCM. Microprocessor based instrument designs not only afford the flexibility for adding features and making changes without having to change the hardware design but reduce the complexity of the electronics for increased reliability and easier maintenance. This paper primarily discusses the microprocessor design approach used in the EG&G VMCM.
