Abstract :
The acoustic Direct Reading Current Meter measures water currents by detecting the differential travel time of acoustic signals propagated in opposite directions along the same fluid path. The two paths are Parranged to resolve two axes of fluid flow (e.g., ocean currents) relative to the instrument housing. A saturable core magnetometer compass measures the horizontal components of the local magnetic field. Current and compass, along with the temperature data and other optional parameters, are transmitted by cable to a microprocessor-based data terminal. The data is processed by the terminal and is presented in a variety of direct reading formats.
