Abstract :
Multifunctional voltage source converters can significantly contribute to the flexibility of energy management in shipboard power systems. The ability to do more functions with a single device is desired, especially when there is an inadequate energy management resource, or unexpected demand that may appear as a result of battle damage or power system topology change. Despite the great number of different control strategies suggested for voltage source converters, nearly all use similar methods for generation of the reference signals. These methods of control design are not flexible. The paper suggests a new approach for the control architecture that allows flexible on-line reconfiguration of all possible voltage source converter functions. The aspects associated with the modeling of such converters in the virtual test bed (VTB) are discussed and simulation results are presented.
