Abstract
Many abutments at two ends of highway bridge are U-type abutment which is a kind of retaining walls malls made of mortar rubble masonry. Because of construction causes and the surface-water soaking of backfill in the U-type abutment, the side walls and front walls of abutment product displacement, which endangers the safety of vehicles on the highway. Through some abutment strengthening works of highway bridge, this thesis provides the design and construction method of abutment strengthening works with the through-prestressed anchor and shotcrete reinforcement fabric technology. It´s shown by the practical project that using the through-prestressed anchor and shotcrete panel with reinforcement fabric to strengthen the abutment has many advantages, such as specific load-carrying capability, cheap construction cost, simplified construction, no interruption for vehicle and short duration of construction period. So there is important value to popularize this technology in abutment strengthening works of highway or railroad bridge.
