Abstract :
The traffic flow information guidance (TFIG) can adjust the road load of regional traffic. Based on TFIG model and example of the region at the Southwest Second Ring of Beijing constructed by six roads, including three heavy traffic roads, and six intersections, we focus on the left-turn traffic jam in southbound of I.A and propose the TFIG measures to guide part of them to branch roads: R.4 and/or R.5+R.6, and then take the advantage of the VISSIM software to simulate the regional traffic operation. The analysis of 9 different scenarios shows that left-turn traffic jam can be effectively mitigated: its travel times are saved by 18%, 30%-31%, 42%-46% and delays are reduced by 50-57s, 87-92s, 118-139s, respectively, when its guided flow ratios are 10%, 20%, 30%. Meanwhile, one of R4.and R.5+R.6 is weak to affording the guided vehicles but two of them can not be taken lightly to optimizing traffic.
