A second-order discrete-time system with a sawtooth nonlinearity can exhibit dynamic chaos, which is a form of response much more complex than a periodic limit-cycle. This paper discusses the manner in which such waveforms arise, with illustrations obtained from interactive software developed to investigate and demonstrate these phenomena
