Abstract :
Considering the different characters of ROAM algorithm and quadtree algorithm, a new multi-resolution level of detail (LOD) model for large-scale terrain real-time display is presented in this paper. Based on easy realized QuadTree algorithm, the partitioning strategy of ROAM is adopted, and then a new view to model distance computational method is defined. Meanwhile, a refinement method for filling crack and avoiding pops is introduced. Simulation results show that it has better ability of simplifying terrain, and still keeps a rapid displaying speed like the other LOD Models.
