Abstract :
Data transmission by bouncing off ionized meteor trails provides a reliable means of communications up to 2000 km, without the use of repeaters. This paper will provide an introduction to meteor burst technology and its general application for the telemetry of oceanographic data. Operational features of the SNOTEL system will be presented. The equipment is available in physically compact terminals, making it ideal for mobile, man-portable and buoy applications.
