Abstract
Sperry Research Center and Sperry Corporation have been actively developing fiber optic sensors for a variety of military and commercial applications. Multimode technology has been the preferred approach because appropriate fiber optic components are commercially available. Because of the challenging nature of the problem, a significant portion of the research at Sperry Research Center has centered on methods for producing fiber optic hydrophones. An up-to-date summary will be presented indicating the concepts and performance achieved at Sperry Research on fiber optic sensors. The emphasis of the presentation will be on fiber optic hydrophones.
