Abstract :
Issues involved in the design of optimal filters for optical pattern recognition are discussed. The constraints associated with the implementation of filters using optical devices are outlined. New procedures are presented for the design of complex filters with maximum signal-to-noise ratio in the presence of input noise and detector noise
