Title :
Sendfax a single chip fax and data modem
Author_Institution :
Sierra Semicond. Ltd., Swindon, UK
Abstract :
The operation of Sierra´s chips as integrated modems are divided into two chips. A modem analog peripheral that performs all the modem analog functions and a modem advanced controller (MAC) that performs the digital signal processing of the received signal when in data mode. The MAC is a 16-bit microcontroller with an on-board 8250 UART which is used to provide a host interface allowing a complete Hayes compatible 2400 b.p.s. modem to be made in two VLSI chips
