Abstract :
The amount of capacity benefit margin for each particular area is obtained by referring to the imported or exported amount of generation capacity that gives the loss-of-load expectation within a specific level. A heuristic search of capacity benefit margin for a large power system with numerous areas are complicated, computationally expensive and time consuming. Therefore, a new technique is proposed which uses evolutionary programming to optimize the total amount of generation capacity in order to determine the capacity benefit margin for each area. Verification of the evolutionary programming based capacity benefit margin method in determining the available transfer capability is tested on a modified 24 bus IEEE reliable test system as a case study.
