  • Abstract
The Research Vessel ENDEAVOR has recently completed five years of operations. This ship is the third in the Oceanus Class of oceanographic research vessels. The design of this class has proven to be particularly efficient and capable to perform oceanographic research in deep waters. The vessel is further capable of operating successfully in heavy weather and performing extended expeditions in the far oceans of the world. This unique capability of operational effectiveness and cost efficiencies is the culmination of many factors. This paper will discuss the design, the equipment evolution, the operating characteristics, the costs and manning of R/V ENDEAVOR. It will further review the ship\´s operating history and its future plans. Five year cost figures will be summarized. Equipment requirements for further upgrading and future needs will be suggested. Rarely does a ship offer such a fine array of characteristics. This paper will explain "A Successful Endeavor".
