Abstract :
Power system disturbances can be caused by several means but loss of supply has proved the most intractible and is now increasing in its importance because of the increasing number of private generation and CHP schemes being considered and installed. The author discusses protection of motors and generation against loss of supply. In particular the author discusses the use of circuit breakers and their operation in localized protection. the dangerous conditions that can arise during circuit breaker tripping are discussed and ways of overcoming such conditions described
