Abstract :
In this paper, we deal with the multipath channel estimation problem in CDMA communications systems. In the estimation process, we propose 2 methods to treat the multi-user interference. In the first one, we propose to combine the interference cancellation scheme together with the channel estimation scheme to reduce or remove the interference on the pilot and, therefore, to have a better channel estimate. In the second one, we propose to estimate channel parameters from interferers if they are much stronger than the pilot. These techniques can be used in any CDMA-based system especially the third generation WCDMA systems. Computer simulation is used to compare between the proposed methods and the conventional common pilot-aided one. These techniques can be implemented in the mobile unit where there is no prior knowledge of interfering users´ codes or data rates (blind estimation).
