Abstract :
The use of direct modulation of modern long wavelength lasers by many AM-VSB channels is now being widely considered by the cable TV industry. At other organisations, the use of FM instead of AM-VSB is favoured. The performance prediction of such systems requires a knowledge of both optical and video techniques. These have been combined in a spreadsheet to permit the effect of changing any optical or video parameter to be rapidly assessed. The spreadsheet can be run on IBM PC compatible and DEC VAX computers using 2020 or Lotus123 spreadsheet programs. It should be of value for system, equipment and device engineers
