Purpose: when observing a quantity repeatedly, we often observe some differences between the values due to the error of the equipment itself and the effect of external environmental conditions. As a result, the reliability of the result of measurement needs to be characterized by the Uncertainty. Method: To begin with, this paper describes the significance of uncertainty of Measurement, and then uses the Criterion of Grey System which is applicable for small sample to verify whether there is parasitic error in the arrays. Then assesses the uncertainty of measurement of the ranging part. Outcome: a final uncertainty evaluation is obtained,which can express the reliability of measurement of the ranging reasonably.lt can improve the quality of the calibration of electronic total station.
