Abstract :
The Puna Submarine Canyon, the world´s deepest, lies off Hawaii, a proposed location for a manganese nodule processing industry. Steep slopes, low bottom currents, little sediment, sparse bottom life, and water column stability make the canyon head a promising site for a nearshore tailings outfall pipe.
