Abstract :
This paper proposes a method to estimate the temporal locality in the output of a cache based on the input locality, cache size, and degree of associativity. The method is evaluated by calculating the L2 cache hit rates based on the estimated model of locality. The results show a typical absolute error of few percents. The method alleviates memory hierarchy evaluation without running exhaustive simulations at all levels.
