Abstract :
In this paper, a new DSP architecture for baseband processing in multistandard software-defined radios, is presented. Very high data throughput is achieved by means of massively parallel arithmetic units. The single-instruction multiple-data (SIMD) architecture provides best support for vector-oriented algorithms commonly used in many signal processing applications. Based on a radix-4 butterfly structure and optimized for complex-valued arithmetic, the processor´s datapath enables extremely fast FFT computations. Furthermore, exceptional programming flexibility and increased code efficiency are offered by a reconfigurable instruction set. Initial performance assessments have shown remarkable speedup factors for various DSP algorithms in comparison with conventional DSP architectures.
