Abstract :
The primary function of a Marine transportation system is to transfer cargo. This system is made up of a combination of sea carriers and land carriers. The success of the system dictates that you maintain continuity between the carriers by minimizing unscheduled interruptions. The coastal port transportation facilities are a key link in the overall system. Because of the possibility of unscheduled interruptions being caused by failure of port structures such as bulkheads, piers and wharfs, frequent and ongoing inspections of port structures need to be conducted both above and below water. Since above water structures are readily available for inspection, this paper will be limited to the subwater phase of inspections.
