Abstract :
The authors examine the most frequently used methods for system development. Two development methodologies and over 15 techniques are examined for their applicability during different phases of the system development life cycle, for different types of systems, and for different levels of structure in the problem domain. The results obtained support the use of a contingency approach in the selection of methods for system development
