Abstract
This paper presents a first draft of a model for the transfer of best practices as represented by software engineering standards (SES) into university courses. A discussion of mechanisms for their use in the educational process (and the selection of standards actually used at the University of Detroit Mercy graduate program in Software Management) is presented as an example of the extensive possibilities for the implementation of a model. Current work on an IEEE SES sponsored survey of software related programs, aimed at assessing the use of software standards in education, is also illustrated
