  • Abstract
Addresses the significant software standards and specifications that are the foundation for the monolith of software supporting the World Wide Web. This paper presents a guide, via a document schema, to the software standards and specifications needed to produce a particular software unit for use on the Web. There are over 25 organizations producing standards for Web software. Some of these standards cover several software subjects, while others are tightly focused on a particular technical issue. This paper describes a documented method to classify significant Web software standards in a disciplined manner and to give software engineers insight into how to find the right standard for the job. It gives an overview of the types of standards and specifications necessary to do a particular job. With a directory and this indexing schema, a software engineer can easily and quickly find the correct set of standards for any Web application
