Abstract
Due to public demands for better reliability in electric power distribution, Swedish utilities have worked for better service performance in medium voltage overhead lines. The demands have resulted in the development and standardization of new MV overhead line systems such as self-supporting MV ABC cable systems, ACS AXUS and MV covered bare line systems. LCC-analysis, described by the authors, shows that the usual bare line constructions should not be chosen as a matter of routine. The most economic solution over life time for MV overhead line will in many cases be self-supporting ABC-cable (ACS AXUS) or covered bare lines
