Abstract :
The engine performance and pollutant emissions of a commercial SI engine using butanol-gasoline blended fuel are investigated in details. First dyno-experiment tests are carried out. By comparing with the pure gasoline fuel, it is found that the influence of butanol-gasoline blend on engine performance is small for low engine speed. There is a torque drop at high load but it can be recovered easily by optimizing the ignition spark time. Then the combustion characteristics are analyzed to explain the above phenomena. Also the experiment results show that the CO and HC emissions of butonal-gasoline blend are reduced, but the NOx emission is increased due to its high temperature.
