Abstract
The authors analyze multilevel FIR (finite impulse response) median hybrid (FMH) filters and show that some multilevel structures can be expressed as single weighted FMH filters. The multilevel in-place growing filtering concept is introduced to combat the dilemma between detail preservation and noise attenuation of the multilevel filters
