An expert system for the fault diagnosis of the ENEL Standardized Distribution Control System

The authors describe the `SEM´ expert system, developed to improve the fault diagnosis of the central equipment of the Standardized Distribution Control System, called STU, which is in operation in most of the Italian Regional Centres, for the remote control of ENEL distribution HV/MV substations. Following a brief reference to STU architecture, the authors stress the reasons which have led to the implementation of SEM and outline its main features. Preliminary results are also considered and discussed
