Abstract :
Recent investigations conducted by the IBA have highlighted the fact that the uninterrupted transmission of television and radio programmes is largely related to the security of the power supplies to the transmitting sites. Moreover, greater attention has had to be given to the subject of reliability in the design of the power distribution network within the transmitting station and, in particular, to a review of the philosophies of its maintenance. The importance of these issues must be reflected in the design of the complete installation, but over emphasis can lead to the possibility of excess in design and consequential unnecessary investment. The author presents a reliability engineering design study, conducted in quantitative terms, which can contribute to a rational evaluation of various schemes for both electricity supply and power distribution systems
