Abstract :
Electrical rotary machines and static power devices have to be designed to withstand not only currents and voltages but also to match important parameters like frequency. This is essential to ensure that the entire system operates at optimum efficiency. This is very vital in the case of self contained mobile equipment for the Defence Forces. As cross-country mobility, reliability in adverse conditions, easy maintainability etc., are an overriding consideration, it is essential that all these factors are taken care of at the concept stage itself. Electrical devices operating on 400 Hz offer certain distinct advantages over those working with 50 Hz frequencies. This truth could be exploited to the fullest extent in favour of Defence products. For this the industry also has to play a supportive role so that continuity is maintained in the availability of basic raw materials like thin low loss stampings throughout the production stage
