Abstract :
The work described follows from a consideration of the types of network which could be appropriate to providing telecommunications in rural areas of developing countries. Both the lack of infrastructure and the type of traffic, which can be taken as being largely local, with a small proportion of critical traffic to major towns suggest the desirability of a radio relay network in which a proportion of the traffic is carried by transceiver to transceiver contact, but longer distances are possible by chaining the stations together. The analysis has, though, a greater generality of application
