Abstract :
A representation of time is a necessary component for any realistic problem solver. System observables may change over time and these patterns of change can often provide extra discriminating information for a diagnostic process. Information acquisition is often sporadic, with data on the observed system at one point in time being available somewhat later. The authors present a time specialist which maintains a multiple-world temporal database, and which supports appropriate update and enquiry functions on that database
